Emergency Care System (SUME) - Santa Catalina
Considering the growth of Santa Catalina's population and the constant flow of tourists, approximately one year ago, the State set up a service center for a Single Pre-Hospital Emergency Care System (SUME) in the town. This unit consists of an ambulance and an emergency motorcycle equipped with complete technological equipment for the attention of medical emergencies, as well as a paramedic team trained to attend to any first aid situation and subsequently evaluate the relevance of a transfer to the Dr. Ezequiel Abadía Hospital in Soná.
This service can be accessed by calling 911 and is available free of charge 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the benefited population of more or less 6500 people in the area of La Soledad, El tigre, Farfán, Lagartero, La Coca, Hicaco, La trinchera, Punta Calabazal, Guarumal and Santa Catalina.
Talking to the paramedics, they told us that they have a constant movement, that there is practically no rest. In low season the most common thing to receive calls for respiratory complications, while in high season the number of emergencies associated with injuries related to the practice of surfing grows considerably.
Health center - Tigre de Los Amarillos
With the goal to expand our information about medical care, we headed towards the Tigre de Los Amarillos area. After traveling 7 km from Lago Bay, we found the nearest Health Center, parked in the indicated place and began to tour the facilities. We observed a modern and spacious infrastructure that comfortably welcomed the people waiting to be attended, panels with relevant medical information for the population and friendly faces. After speaking with the receptionist, we were able to enter one of the medical offices to talk to the nurse, who kindly informed us of the existing medical procedures.
In the course of the conversation, she provided us with valuable information to keep in mind when seeking medical attention, starting with the need to present a passport or identity card at the reception desk. He also emphasized the importance of the patient presenting himself at the Health Center, since, although they have an ambulance, they do not go to private homes.
The medical specialties are general medicine, dentistry, radiology, laboratory, inhalation therapy, pharmacy, emergencies and two days a week there is an electrocardiogram service.
The opening times are from Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, while on weekends and holidays the Health Center is closed. Finally, she told us that, if necessary, primary care procedures are performed on site, and then the patient is transferred to the Soná Hospital.
Saludos from Lago Bay!!
